Jared Padalecki vs. Ian Somerhalder: Battle of the CW do-gooders

“Supernatural’s”
Jared Padalecki and “The Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder are going head to head… and not because Padalecki plays a monster-hunter and Somerhalder plays a vampire.

The CW stars are both backing charities that are in the running for Chase Bank’s Chase Community Giving, where voters go to Facebook to decide which charities will receive enormous donations from Chase.

Animal lovers Somerhalder and Padalecki are rallying their dedicated fans and encouraging them to vote for their charities – both of which encourage adoption of abandoned animals.

Somerhalder is throwing his voice behind no-kill animal shelter St. Tammany Humane Society in his home town of Covington, La. “Can I ask a huge favor! Doesn’t cost a thing- can you guys please vote for my no-kill shelter at home in louisiana to receive much $ from Chase,” Somerhalder tweeted. “They are doing amazing job and deserve this $!!! Please retweet!! Thanks! Love, Ian.”

The shelter’s mission, as stated on their website, is “To save the life of every adoptable animal in our community through education, adoption and spay/neuter programs.”

Padalecki supports A Dog’s Life Rescue, a Los Angeles-based dog rescue organization that holds pet adoption events almost every week. Because he does not have a Twitter account — seriously — he took a different route. On a break from filming a “Supernatural” episode directed by his co-star Jensen Ackles, Padalecki made a short video message for his fans and other animal lovers.

You can vote for your favorite charity (or your favorite CW star) on Chase’s Facebook page. The charity with the most votes will recieve $250,000 from Chase. Four other charities will get $100,000 donations, and 195 other organizations will get $20,000 — to total five million dollars in donations.

Voting ends tomorrow, July 13, so get your votes in right away. Let us know in the comments which one you’re behind. “The Vampire Diaries” has better ratings, but we’re thinking “Supernatural” might just have the most dedicated fans. The race is on…

We’re voting for both organizations. Abandoned pets in Louisiana and Los Angeles can use the help — we’re sure that both Somerhalder and Padalecki would agree.
