Ian Somerhalder and Candice Accola talk Vampire Diaries: “This is a show that deals with real-life issues.”

What were your expectations when you signed on last season?

Somerhalder: “I’ve been around long enough to not have expectations, because you’re immediately setting yourself up for disappointment. But I could tell we had the chance to make a quality show, and I think we’re accomplishing that.”

Accola: “Any expectations I had have been completely shattered, because the character I play is so different from what I initially auditioned for. I mean, it’s still Caroline, but she’s very different.”

Taylor Kinney interviewed by TV Guide, Fancast & Collider: ” It’s [the moonstone] more powerful than you’d think.”

TVGuide.com: Will the tension between Mason and Damon progress?

Kinney: It’s been a boxing match from the start. Mason was trying to be cool; he didn’t come to Mystic Falls to kill vampires. It’s why he chains himself up … because he knows what can happen if he does turn. Mason offers a hand and says, “Let’s squash this and be cool, I’m not your enemy,” and then [Damon] tries to kill Mason. There’s a huge amount of tension there and every week it’s going to escalate. They’re not going to be sitting at the bar drinking beers anytime soon.

Head over to TV Guide to read the rest of the chat.

Why does Katherine want the moonstone?
You have to watch.  I can tell you that it has a lot of power. It can do a lot of things.  It’s evolved since we started, since talking with Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec about storyline and where things are going to go.  I can’t say for sure what it does, but I can tell you it can do a lot.

Check the entire story out at Fancast.

Will viewers learn how Mason and Katherine came to be working together?

KINNEY: There’s always variables and questions. Not everything is so cut and dry. We saw, in the last episode, that they’ve known each other for a year, but you don’t necessarily know the entire background. Viewers will understand more as the episodes go on, but I don’t think they’re going to see an exact courtship just because Katherine is a mysterious character. Part of her charm is that you don’t know that much about her, she doesn’t give that much away and you don’t necessarily know her intentions. She can be charming and come across as really honest and with good intentions, and then completely turn, even in that relationship. Mason is with her, but I think they both have a couple of cards up their sleeve.

The 33 CW video interview with Ian and Candice

Executive producer Julie Plec answers your burning questions: “No one is ever safe.”

Backing up a little bit, why turn Caroline and not someone else?

Julie: We love Candice Accola [the actress who plays her] so much. We love the bubbliness and the fun, the zest and the sass that she brings to the show as an actress and we thought it would be really fun to explore that kind of persona in vampire form which I think has been successful for us. She brings a levity and a sweetness and feistiness to our vampire story line which I enjoy seeing. It’s an extra source of humor and an extra source of heart that is really helping us.

WGN-TV interviews Steven and Michael at Hot Topic Chicago

The TV Chick chat with Steven R. McQueen: “Jeremy’s going to take control.”

Would you say that Jeremy’s fully forgiven Elena?

I think at this point, Elena’s the only family he has left. He lost his parents. He’s lost the two girls that he loved. Elena is the only connection to the human world that he has left besides his family responsibilities. So, though he still doesn’t fully trust her, he loves her with all his heart and he’ll do anything to protect her.

And will Jeremy have any Katherine interactions perhaps?
Watch the next couple of episodes. Definitely. He gets involved in that world, and if you’re getting involved in the vampire world, you’re bound to run into Katherine, cause she’s kind of the showrunner.

Nina Dobrev On Kissing Costars: ‘I’ve Madeout With Almost Every Boy’ On ‘Vampire Diaries’

Movie Trailers - Movies Blog

Kevin Williamson to Jim Halterman: “There’s a world for Meredith [Sulez].”

JH: Now, we just had a rerun so what can we all mouth water over in anticipation for this coming week’s new episode, “Plan B?”

KW: The next episode is the one right before our Halloween episode. We sort of have a two-parter (“Plan B” and “Masquerade”) where we set up the Masquerade Ball at the Lockwood estate. It’s something that the Mayor had already put into motion before he died so they carry through with it. It is where they sort of put a plot in motion to once and for all take care of Katherine and it’s a very Katherine-focused episode. It’s all about saving everyone and doing away with Katherine.

KTLA interviews Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder at Scream Awards

Show Tracker talks to Ian Somerhalder: “It’s [this season] synonymous with Katherine.”

There’s a masquerade ball episode coming up. Does Damon take a date with him?

No. Damon actually doesn’t take a date with him. He and Stefan have a lot of stuff to deal with. Last year, when Damon came to town, every notion he had, every desire he had, there was a lot of cause and effect. There was a ripple effect to every action Damon made. Now, this season and however long it’s going to go, it’s synonymous with Katherine. At the masquerade, Damon and Stefan are kind of forced to deal with Katherine in a way which is not easy on anybody. She’s as ruthless as Damon was in season one and more. She’ll stop at nothing to get what she wants. It’s just what she does.

Taylor Kinney interview with Celebuzz: “It’s going to escalate.”

Last week the huge bombshell was dropped – Mason is one of the countless dudes under vampire Katherine’s (Nina Dobrev’s) spell.  Will Mason be another one of her casualties?

Mason’s not that naïve. He geniuinely has an affection and passion for Katherine. As of now, if there’s any possibility of her trying to manipulate a situation to get one up on him, maybe he’s molded a little, but I don’t think he cares. It’s one of those things where he met her, say a year ago, and he fell in love with her. That’s in the forefront of his mind.

Ian Somerhalder to ETonline: “There are going to be a lot of twists and turns.”

ET
: Can you talk about the relationship between the brothers?

Ian Somerhalder: These two brothers have very different views on life. Damon has decided to not dismiss his heritage, which is unfortunately feeding on people. That is what you do. It is as if a human being had decided to stop eating. Stefan (Paul Wesley) — because of his love for people or his desire to not brutalize children — [doesn't feed on humans] which makes it difficult to hang out. There are going to be a lot of twists and turns that are going to illustrate how different we are and the bouncing back and forth of good to bad and bad to good.

Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec talk about Delena: “We’ve got a long way to go.”

The neck-snapping incident that drove a wedge between the two former friends was arguably the most shocking moment we’ve seen yet in a series that surprises me in every act. Plec says that she and Williamson were having lunch when he pitched her the idea, and she gasped out loud. “My jaw fell on the floor,” she recalls. “That is the most messed up, twisted, ridiculous, horrible thing, that is awesome. And if I’m having a reaction, as someone who’s heard everything, and I lose my mind over it – it blew my mind.”

Candice Accola: It’s pretty boring when everybody lives happily ever after

PW: Which is?

Candice: She’s no longer held back by the things or people around her. Which can be bad because if you only do what you want with no concern for other people’s feelings – or safety – bad things can happen. But at the same time, if you’re controlled by everyone else’s feelings, that’s also really bad as well. Vampire Caroline is defining herself. It’s an extreme version of herself. It gets really crazy from here on out.

Ford Fiesta Presents: Inside The Vampire Diaries With Candice Accola

Kevin on the werewolf plotline and Damon & Katherine relationship: “We know what we’re leading to and who’s going to die.”

“The fun thing about Katherine is that she can play Damon at his own game and then up it,” says Williamson. And of course, with so many wars raging among the supernaturally inclined around these parts, Williamson warns that there will be casualties as the season proceeds: “We know what we’re leading to and who’s going to die. By developing that, we know what next year looks like.” Let’s just hope our Mystic Falls faves survive to see it, too!

‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Ian Somerhalder Says Katherine Is ‘The Damon Of Last Year’

“Oh I don’t see that happening anytime soon,” Ian said of Katherine’s possible (eventual?) demise. “She’s wreaking havoc, man. She’s the cornerstone for that havoc. She’s the Damon of last year, so I don’t see her going anywhere. She’s a major catalyst for a lot,” he explained.

“She’s out of her mind,” Ian said. “And you know what, she’s doing whatever she’s doing out of whatever reason. I don’t even know. It could be for love, it could be for survival, it could be vengeance. I actually don’t know. When we do find that out, I’m very much look forward to that.”

TV Fanatic chats to Ian Somerhalder and Candice Accola: “Katherine and Caroline’s paths will continue to cross.”

What has changed for Damon?

I think that what’s sort of thrown Damon for a loop is what he said at the end of the finale, “I came to this town wanting to destroy it and everything in it, and now I find myself wanted to protect it.” How the hell does that happen? I think that it happens because when you forge relationships with people you raise stakes, you have something to lose. For someone who’s never had anything to lose, it’s throwing him a bit. It’s fun to play, but I think there are a lot of things that are about to pop up that are going to make for some action.

Read the entire Ian Somerhalder interview at TV Fanatic.

Do you think Caroline took it easy on Damon, considering everything he put her through?
Definitely. At the same time, Caroline is very new to this whole world of being a vampire and what she’s capable of and what she’s not capable of. In order to become a vampire, part of you dies. It’s a very traumatizing thing. That fact that Damon has already tried to kill her again… she doesn’t know how powerful he is. In her mind, what if he’s as powerful as Katherine? I think there’s only so much playing with fire you want to do when you’re already half dead. It’d be a little scary to push his buttons too much until she knows what she’s capable of, and more importantly, what he is capable of.

MTV News chat with Ian Somerhalder: “This softer side of Damon is really difficult for me to find.”

“It’s really, really cool,” he told MTV News about his participation in the summit. “I think there’s a lot of anger and frustration and fear and determination in this exact moment in our country in the wake of this huge oil spill. But the government, they know enough to figure it out and they’re taking steps to do that, so I’m really honored to be invited to go and speak with these people. I’ll try not to screw up,” he joked. “I can’t wait to put my thinking cap on and get to Washington and have really structured and really inspiring conversations with people and hopefully something comes out of it.”

“The dynamics in which this guy lives by are so skewed,” Somerhalder told MTV News recently. “But at the end of the day, and it sounds so cliché, but at the end of the day, he does everything — like all of us do — for love. In some fashion or another, that is why he does what he does. He may go about it in very unconventional, unorthodox, unethical ways, but he does them nonetheless, and he believes in what he’s doing and he has a blast at what he’s doing.”
